Embryo Development

Male and female gametes undergo fertilisation to form zygote which is unicellular organism. This cell or zygote develops further to form an embryo which eventually forms a baby.

Development of Embryo: Humans

In human beings, after the formation of zygote, the zygote undergoes repetitive cell division thereby increasing number of cells. When number of cells increase it forms a ball of cells. Hence, cell in this structure starts forming groups. Eventually these groups undergo specific modification and it starts developing into various body tissues and organs. This developing structure is called embryo. Particularly, embryo is made up of large number of cells and therefore, it is multicellular. Embryo gets implanted at the walls of uterus where it undergo further development. As the time passes, it develops into various body parts like hands, legs, head, eyes, ears, etc. A point comes in the stage of development where all the body parts of embryo can be easily identified. Stage in which all body parts are easily identified is called as foetus. After development of foetus is completed, mother gives birth to a baby.

Development of Embryo: Hen’s

Hens follow a bit of different procedure than that of humans. After fertilisation zygote is formed which undergo repetitive cell division. These cells then travels down the oviduct. While travelling the oviduct zygote undergo development of protective layers around it. Hard shell of hen’s egg is such protective layers. Then hen lays egg. For 3 weeks hens provide appropriate amount of warmth to eggs by sitting on it. While this period embryo in egg forms a chick. When chick completely develops it break the egg and come out of shell

Oviparous and Viviparous animals

Animals like pigeons, hens, sparrows, etc, development of embryo takes place inside the egg, where egg is out of mother’s body. These animal are called oviparous animals. Animals like cow, dogs, humans, etc, development of embryo takes place inside the mother’s body. Such animals are called viviparous animals.
