Happy Teachers’ Day

I remember myself in first grade heartily waiting for 5th of September, and was confused to decide what should be presented to my teacher on this special occasion? And then with arrival of 5th September, I thought of some roses and handmade greeting card as a perfect gift to express my gratitude towards my teachers. Yes it was 5th September!!! Teachers Day!!! This year, on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, LearnFatafat celebrates the greatness of teachers across the nation.

Teaching has been evolved since ancient times. You must have heard stories in which teacher or guru sits under the trees preaching students or shishya. Later, teaching was conducted in institutions in closed classrooms. And now, the new generation believes in classroom teaching as well as e learning. Across the world teachers day is celebrated on different dates . Traditionally in India, teacher’s day is celebrated on Guru Purnima i.e. full moon day in hindu month of Ashadh. From 1962, in India teacher’s day is celebrated on 5th of September on birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

About Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan

Dr. Radhakrishnan was born on 5th of September 1888 in a Brahman family in small village near Tiruttani of Madras, British India. He conducted primary education at K.V. High School, Tiruttani. He was graduated with Master Degree in Philosophy. Later, Radhakrishnan wrote a thesis for M.A. degree on “ The ethics of vedanta and its metaphysical presupposition”. At the age of 20 his thesis was published along with the appreciation of his philosophy Professor Dr. Alfred George Hogg. At age of 16, he was married with Sivakamu, and was blessed with five daughters and one son. In political carrier, Radhakrishnan was elected as first Vice President of India in 1952. Later in 1962 he was appointed as second president of India. When he became president, some of his students and group of friends requested to allow them for his birthday celebration. To this he replied that, “Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege, if September 5th is observed as Teachers’ Day.” Therefore, 5th September is celebrated as Teachers’ Day which pays tribute to a believer in education, a scholar, an ideal teacher and off course President of India Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

It is well said that “A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning”. Teachers and their teachings are the source of inspiration for us to move ahead in life and gain success. Similar to our parents they play an important role in our life. Their teachings helps us in building good character and carve us into a good citizen. Moreover, they are the one’s who take responsibility to educate new generation and make a better world. They motivate us, makes us strong enough to face any obstacle. A teacher is not one who choose path for you, he’s the one who directs you in your path.

E-learning – A New Step Towards Teaching

  • E-learning provides confident teaching.
  • Knowledge is not restricted upto the books, but is more deep and updated about the subject.
  • E learning saves time.
  • Various Learning Management Systems, provides opportunities to increase your skills by solving quizzes and tests.
  • Moreover, it provides high knowledge retention.
  • Through e learning study material can be viewed again and again which is sometime not possible in classroom studies.
  • Many times it become difficult to be attentive in class or remember all teaching from the classroom, in such cases, e learning overcome all these points, as student can decide how much they can learn in one time and start learning accordingly.
  • Similar to classrooms, e learning provides forums and online discussions for question answering sessions.

Before ending, let’s recall the greats words from William Arthur Ward,

“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”
