1. Correct the following statements and rewrite them in your notebook.
(a) Stem absorbs water and minerals from the soil.
Answer: Roots absorbs water and minerals from the soil
(b) Leaves hold the plant upright.
Answer: Stem hold the plant upright.
(c) Roots conduct water to the leaves.
Answer: Stem conduct water to the leaves.
(d) The number of petals and stamens in a flower is always equal.
Answer: The number of petals and stamens in a flower in not always equal.
(e) If the sepals of a flower are joined together, its petals are also joined together.
Answer: If sepals are joined, then there is possibility that petal may join or may not get joined together.
(f) If the petals of a flower are joined together, then the pistil is joined to the petal.
Answer: It is not necessary that pistil is joined to the petal, if petals of a flower are joined together.

Answer: Pumpkin. It is a creeper.
4. What is the function of a stem ?
Answer: Functions of a stem are –
- Stem bears leaves, flowers and fruits.
- Water is transferred from roots to the leaves and other parts of the plant body through stem.
- Stem also conducts food from leaves to other parts of the plants.
5. Which of the following leaves have reticulate venation? Wheat, tulsi, maize, grass, coriander (dhania), China rose
Answer: Tulsi, Coriander(Dhania), China Rose.
6. If a plant has fibrous root, what type of venation do its leaves have ?
Answer: Parallel venation.
7. If a plant has leaves with reticulate venation, what kind of roots will it have ?
Answer: Tap roots.
8. Is it possible for you to find out whether a plant has taproot or fibrous roots by looking at the impression of its leaf on a sheet of paper ?
Answer: Yes, it is possible to find whether plant has taproot or fibrous root by looking at the impression of its leaf on sheet of paper. To determine this, take a white paper and put it on the leaf. Hold a pencil tip sideways and rub it on portion of white paper containing leaf. Here, impression is obtained containing venation of leaf. If impression show reticulate venation then roots will be taproot. If venation is parallel, then roots are fibrous.
9. What are the parts of a flower.
Answer: Pedicel, Receptacle, Sepals, Petals, Anther, Stalk(Filament), Carpel.
10. From the following plants, which of them have flowers? Grass, maize, wheat, chilli, tomato, tulsi, peepal, shisham, banyan, mango, jamun, guava, pomegranate, papaya, banana, lemon, sugarcane, potato, groundnut
Answer: All plants have flowers.
11. Name the part of plant which produces food. Name the process.
Answer: Leaves of a plant produces food with the help of sunlight. The process is called photosynthesis.
12. In which part of a flower, you will find the ovary?
Answer: Ovary is part of the pistil. It is the lowermost and swollen part of the pistil.
13. Name two plants in which one has joined sepals and the other has separate sepals.
Answer:
- Examples of joined sepals – Cotton, tomato, china rose.
- Example of separate sepals – Lotus, lily.
